People across the country have lost their jobs due to several cities shutting down to slow down the spread of the coronavirus. Many of the undocumented immigrants in this country who work illegally file and pay taxes in the hope that it will help when a path for citizenship arrives. Those same immigrants have lost their jobs and unfortunately can't receive any help from the government during these hard times.

The government will begin to make payments to Americans beginning in mid-April. Citizens that make around 75,000 dollars will receive a check of 1,200 dollars and as income increase, the payment will decrease. In order to receive help, you must have a social security number and have filed taxes for 2018 and 2019.

According to the Institute on Taxation and Economic Policy, about 4.3 million mostly unauthorized immigrants who do not have a Social Security number file taxes using what’s known as a taxpayer identification number.

Many undocumented workers lost their jobs and are forced to keep looking for work and exposing themselves during the pandemic. These workers contribute to the economy and they don't have any safety nets like the rest of the country.

A report by the Associated Press estimates that 3.5 million children, who many are American citizens will not get help from the coronavirus relief package because their parents are not US citizens.
