Unemployed legal workers could be forced to leave the US during the pandemic

NORTHRIDGE, CA - Millions of foreign workers face several challenges during the coronavirus outbreak. They are not receiving unemployment benefits because they are on a work visa, despite paying taxes each year.

The pandemic has left millions of Americans unemployed with businesses struggling to survive. A small group that is being left with almost no options is foreign workers. They do not receive government because they are on work visas. Many of them have lost their jobs and are left with two options, either find a similar job before the 60-day grace period or leave the country.


“It was going good. I thought I would be in Michigan forever. We were going to buy a house and settle down here,” said Rejish Ravindran, 35, who lives in Grand Rapids, Mich. and used to analyzed data for a national footwear retailer, helping make sales projections and investment decisions.




Government officials have yet to announce if they would consider an extension to the visas of the millions of workers who have lost their job due to the pandemic. Since the beginning of the outbreak, The Trump administration has used the pandemic to stricken restrictions on immigration.
